Ingredients

Bacon Cheddar Dog Treats

  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup cornmeal

  • 1 beef bouillon cube, finely crushed to powder

  • ½ cup cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 1 large egg, beaten

  • ⅓ cup whole milk

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, and bouillon cube powder.

  3. In a medium bowl, stir together the bacon, bacon fat, cheese, egg, and milk until combined.

  4. Add the flour mixture to the bacon cheese mixture and stir until well combined.

  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead together to form a ball.

  6. Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to ¼-inch thick. (If the dough is too sticky, add a bit more flour. If it’s too dry, add a bit more milk.)

  7. Use a cookie cutter to cut out the dough into the desired shape and sizes. (I used a 3.5” x 2” football shaped cookie cutter.)

  8. Transfer the dog treats to the prepared baking sheet and bake for about 20 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. Once cooked, turn the oven off and keep the treats on the baking sheet in the oven to dry out for about 5 minutes. Then remove the treats to a wire rack to cool.

Making your own homemade dog treats allows you to control the ingredients to ensure your pup is getting a nutritious snack without the unhealthy additives of commercial dog treats. It’s also a tasty alternative and a fun reward for your four-legged best friend. Check out these other easy DIY dog treat recipes and whip up some goodies for your fur friend.
